Around The Church Yard features a monthly update of news.
Sunday, June 9th, 2019 At St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Ocean View Hawaii.
We’re at church today to celebrate Pentecost and to help celebrate with Max Unger and his family his retirement and return to his home on the Big Island. Max began his football journey in 2000 at Hawaii Prepatory Academy. In 2004 he graduated from HPA and moved up to the University of Oregon. Max red shirted with the Ducks in 04 and then played full time with them until he graduated in 2008. In 2008 he was drafted by the Sea hawks and played center for them for 6 yrs. In 2015 he was traded to the Saints and retired this year. St. Jude’s considered themselves part of the football family with Cynnie reporting the scores every Sunday. Our priests got used to hearing her phone ping during the service telling us that Ray was sending an update. The last two years Cynnie and Ray have been our traveling football vagabonds reporting back to us what was happening on the road. Cynnie even wrote a travel log for the newsletter Talk Story that is published monthly here at St. Jude’s while she and Ray and others of the family traveled wherever the game was. We were kept informed when Max married Leaha in 2012 and we’ve prayed for a safe delivery of Cameron in 2015 and then Elliott in 2017. We want to say Thank you Max for making your St. Jude’s family very proud of all your accomplishments. Thank you for being the husband, father and man that you are. I really don’t know what we’re going to do this fall when the season starts, we won’t be hearing the ping of Cynnie’s phone or have reports of what’s happening. We’ll still keep you and your family in our prayers – so now as you go forward to plan the rest of your life know that we love you very much and want only the best for you. Keep coming out when you can and let us see the girls grow up.
